Flexible Strength

Swaying Grasses

If you watch nature, there are countless examples where strength does not equal brute force.
Instead, it equals flexibility.

Can you imagine what would happen to all the trees, plants and grasses if they were not flexible when the strong winds blow?

They would break.

Are you flexible, or are you easy to break?

I leave you with a few more words on this from the Tao Te Ching:

The flexible are preserved unbroken.
The bent become straight.
The empty are filled.
The exhausted become renewed.
The poor are enriched.
The rich are confounded.

Lau Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Love how you can see and feel the wind in this image!!!

  2. Bern says:

    For those who are stiff,
    They shall one day break.
    But being broken,
    They can grow again,
    Under differing conditions,
    Within New states of mind,
And can find that peice or peace of mind
That will allow them to endure any environment.

Evita – I cannot believe your words. Today I come home after an exhausting day in the office. I am faced with many decisions, some very unpleasant. I am exhausted and cranky. And then I check your web site and these words are here, as if waiting only for me. And I read them, I contemplate, and decide that I have become non-flexible. This is something I have control over. I already feel better! Thank you.

    @ MARCIE – Thanks Marcie!

@ BERN – Many thanks for that addition Bernie, it touched my heart more than you can possibly imagine!

@ MARTIE – Martie, I can so relate, there were moments in my life that made me snap out of the “Strong” – the so called preferred state in our society and accept being flexible.

But it wasn’t I heard Wayne Dyer speak on this subject of being flexible like water, that I really got it. Today, it is not to say that I do not stand my own ground on anything, or sway which ever way the wind blows, no it is more than that. My flexibility today is more natural and loving, just like the water or the grasses…

Thanks for sharing your story Martie, it means a lot and I value so much that I can share in your experiences.
