Vacation Highlights: I Have the Whole World In My Hands

One of the most precious moments that I have ever experienced in my life was feeding the chipmunks on our property on vacation.
There were so many of them, each cuter than the other (not that one can really tell them apart).
Two became very friendly with us and after a few nuts, I got to experience a side of nature that I have to tell you I always dream(ed) of.
To look into the eyes of a wild animal, but at that a precious little animal who put its trust in you is one moving experience.
For me this was like having, as the song goes “the whole world” in my hands.
For in holding that precious life in the palms of my hands, I got to connect with the greater purpose that binds us all together, to appreciate life – all life, and to marvel at its magnificent existence.

Wonderful…sweet shot!
Amazing and beautiful … and such a gift.
@ BEANOW – Thanks!
@ CHANIA GIRL – Thank you – this is by far my most favorite shot in a long time. This little guy made a huge impact on my vacation!
I loved the chickadee but I had to come see this little guy in your hand as I just ADORE this photo and this little guy, his tiny little hands and trusting ways. I felt this same way in the rainforest when the wild life trusted me AND befriended me and I never even fed them but there was this one little wallaby, which I write about in my book, who came to visit me every morning, I was as close to her as any human. It is an honor unlike ANY other honor. It is the most special moment in our lives. One that cannot be put into words but must be experienced. Although, this photo completely captures that entire feeling. The ‘sweetness’ we feel inside is beyond compare. Thank you dear gentle soul for knowing all this and sharing it. It all brings tears to my eyes. Much love, Robin. PS You are such a gentle soul and these little guys sense that.
Evita, this little chipmunk is adorable. I was delighted when I saw the picture. What would we do without nature to appreciate? Thanks for sharing this picture.
Have you heard about this Banff squirrel or seen this picture? http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/2009/08/13/squirrel-banff-photo-brandts-geographic.html
How fortunate! It’s something I’ve always dreamed of, too. I’ve had them within inches. What a gift you received!! Robin’s right: it sensed it’s safety with you. :)
@ ROBIN – Oh Robin I am so happy you came and saw this photo as it has quickly become my favorite one out of them all. It must be from that amazing bonding experience I had in it!
Oh wow I cannot believe you had a wallaby visiting you – God that must have been precious indeed. And I know not to feed animals in the wild, but these little guys run around the cottage, well most of their homes are on the cottage property, just under and around the stairs and doors, etc. So I don’t mind feeding them, because if for no other reason I feel like I am helping them stock up for the winter ;) LOL (I hope that does not sound like an excuse, but I have to be honest, I just can’t resist with these little ones)
Thank you so much Robin for popping over here :) I so love your comments!!!
@ DAVINA – Indeed what would we do without nature? It brings I find into our lives such a sense of serenity, humility and perfection that is inspired with just the most amazing touch of awe!
Davina thank you so much for the photo link of the squirrel. No I had not seen it but when it opened I almost fell off my chair from laughing. I LOVE those guys. Honestly, I don’t know what it is but I have such a soft spot for them in my heart – they are just too funny and cute!!!
@ JULIE – Oh Julie I am so happy you saw this photo too. This was honestly one of my life’s most precious moments and I am so happy to be able to share it with friends like you guys who I know appreciate it!!!
I think Ontario must have a ton of these little guys! They are all over the property at our cottage and I kind of knew one lived in our backyard. Well yesterday I became personal friends with him and now know for sure. They are just so adorable and I feel so blessed for having my life be touched by theirs :)
Oh man, I thought I had seen the best, but I was wrong. THIS IS THE BEST SHOT I’ve ever SEEN for a long looooong time!
@ PREETAM – Thanks so much Preetam, it means a lot as this is my favorite shot too! It was such a special experience!
Evita, this is an amazing photo. I’ve also always wanted to experience a chipmunk in my hand, i just adore animals but its like many don’t give that trust to you, but it’s amazing how this one gave you his trust and went in your hand, AMAZIIING!
@ BELLA – Thank you so much!!! It is a very special one for me indeed!
And you are right, most animals do not want to give their trust. Perhaps humans and animals have lived in fear of each other for too long and today the separation is painful for us both. We now want them back in our lives, but they want to just live out their own existence, not trusting us. In many ways we cannot blame them, for the cruelty the world inflicts on most of them.
So yes, I felt and feel very humbled that this little guy was so trusting – he is a wild animal after all.
But don’t give up hope on them either – they can sense good energies and the more you express your love for them and nature as a whole, the more you will see opportunities in your life where nature and the animals allow you into their life…if only a little :)
Spent over an hour on your site – it is great, thanks.
@ DALE – Wow, thank you for letting me know and the feedback. I am glad you enjoyed it and I really appreciate the feedback – I love capturing various scenes and adding words of reflection to them, and it is awesome always to hear when others are enjoying them too :)
